A slight deviation here or there, and we wouldn't exist -- the anthropic principle.

Not just 'us' but matter in any form. Apparently, according to GUTH, there could be an infinite number of universes with absolutely no connection or possibility of communication between any of them, and--this is the point--most of them would be totally empty. We would, of course, not exist in a totally empty universe, that is, in most universes. Special? No, there is no communication, so there is no relation.

Multi-verse theories are the ultimate in metaphysical speculation, since they are wholly and completely unverifiable. If there can be no communication between any of the univeres, then we can never know whether they exist or not, making multi-verse theories very unscientific. Ironically, the proposal of multi-verses is an attempt to explain the anthropic priciple and thus is analogous to intelligent design arguments, that argue, that there must be a reality beyond the physical universe, to explains both the origin of life and the suitability of the universe for life. One of the main differences between multi-verse models and intelligent design, is that intelligent design presumes comunication between the physical universe and some reality beyond the physical universe, while multi-verse theories generally prohibit any comunication between universes.
