Any freepers understanding what's really occurring here?

I thought it was just a down grade of the stock, and it's not quite going down in flames....
seriously I hope the crew is okay....

Is Baghdad Bob reporting this story?
Hope everyone is ok.

For those that don't know. Memphis is one of two FedEx hubs. The other's in Anchorage, Alaska.

Memphis is the FEDEX hub, all packages go through there so an accident is statistically more likely there.
With my luck, my Mom's Christmas present just went up in smoke.

Hoping & trusting the crew is OK.
Of course, this is easily explained by the fact that I sent a package by FedEx Tuesday, due in to the Left Coast by tomorrow.

CNBC had a jiggly video of the airport...no smoke plume was visible... and could not see the plane.
Not sure what Power Lunch was reporting...
no recent updates on reports.

"Memphis is the FEDEX hub, all packages go through there so an accident is statistically more likely there." The sheer number of turbine aircraft ops at MEM late in the evening and then early in the morning is astounding. Arrivals are stacked on short separation by ATC and departures are cleared the instant the aircraft ahead of them is wheels-up. It's a sight to behold. Which is one of the reasons that some of the best ATC people in the entire country are assigned the night shift at the field. Same thing at UPS's hub in Louisville.
CNN is now showing the fire - DC-10/MD-11 on the runway - gear either collapsed or didn't extend. The wide-body looks intact.

Fox News now reporting. Engine caught fire during landing. DC-10 flying from Oakland. Carying 4 employees. Landing gear collapsed, causing the engine to catch fire from ground friction. Veered off runway. No injuries. No status on the cargo.

Actually Fedex has hubs at:
Memphis
Newark
Oakland
Indianapolis
Dallas
Anchorage
Dubai
Subic Bay
Paris
Frankfurt
Plus numerous 'ground' sorting areas.

From the looks of it, the cargo should be intact. Can't wait to hear about the maintenance on that gear. All three collapsed at once. Doesn't happen very often that way.

I missed the video (TV's in the other room). The talking head-ette made it sound like "only" one gear collapsed. Do the pictures show differently?

Good the crew got out. Hate to be stuck in a flaming fuselage.

"I missed the video (TV's in the other room). The talking head-ette made it sound like "only" one gear collapsed. Do the pictures show differently?" The shot I saw only briefly showed the plane with its belly on the ground. That's pretty hard to do unless all the gear is either up or broken away.

FEDEX corporate headquarters and central hub are in Memphis.
As noted above there are other hubs worldwide.
FEDEX stock declined significantly yesterday following an announcement of a 63% decline in earnings. Perhaps the crew was reviewing their pension plans and 401K's and had tears in their eyes, and forgot to lower the landing gear.

From the looks of it, the cargo should be intact.I disagree, that plane and its contents are a writeoff.

I have always wondered how smart or in touch those talking heads are. Here's a small list that im sure some of you would like to add to
1 When the say cement instead of concrete.
2 Anytime a big rig has a accident. it always is a jack knifed truck
3 When they say it was a robbery when it was buglary
4 When they say there was a near miss in the skys over the city . Oh you mean the hit !
Can I hear more from all you freepers
