They can't. They'll lose their base. They are too heavily invested in hatred for religion.

Go over to a democrat website such as DU and take a peek. They save their bitterest invective, besides for Bush, for people of faith. They call us "fundies". Their favorite derogatory nickname for Lieberman (whom they hate) is "Holy Joe". They call him a DINO and think he should leave the party because he is really a Republican in disguise.

The bottom line is, if you say you are religious and feed the poor, that's acceptable. But if you attempt to live out your faith in any other way, you are a dangerous Nazi.

"They call us "fundies"."

Is that right?!? "Fundies." The point is to maintain the facade of a two-party system, the dims are going to present a different illusion to attract the mainline, and since the "fundies" are exploding in popularity, they would be fools to keep the DU crowd.

The bottom line is, if you say you are religious and feed the poor, that's acceptable.

Liberals seek to confiscate other people's money and to redistribute the spoils through a terrifically ineffecient system. Some genuinely poor but deserving people receive sustenance thereby, but that goal is secondary to the liberals' political goal of buying support by raiding the public treasury.

Genuinely religious people tend to be generous in privately providing sustenance to the needy--but they do so directly and far more efficiently than the government does. Official statistics will not necessarily reflect the degree of this giving. Devout Christians will tend to give generously without worrying about documenting each contribution to get a tax deduction.
