ARLINGTON - Police are searching for a man who repeatedly ran over another man Wednesday morning in a north Arlington parking lot apparently because the victim owed him $10 for narcotics.
A 30-year-old man and his 26-year-old female friend were injured in the assault, which occurred about 10 a.m. in front of several people in the Collins Centre shopping plaza south of Peach Street.
Police believe the suspect was driving on Collins Street when he saw Derrick Samuels and Martha Tucker walking down the street and decided to run them down, police Sgt. Mark Simpson said.
"This is all over a $10 dope deal. She was collateral damage," Simpson said.
Tucker suffered minor injuries, but Samuel suffered serious injuries to his legs, police spokeswoman Christy Gilfour said.
Both were taken to hospitals by ambulance.
More than a dozen witnesses gathered to talk with officers in the parking lot across from Kingdom Auto World. Investigators stretched crime scene tape around the parking lot driveway, where a pair of shoes and bloody clothing lay near the street.
Samuels had been lying facedown on the pavement when emergency crews arrived.
"When he went down, the suspect decided to run over him several times," Simpson said.
The suspect, a 36-year-old man whose name police did not release, faces two charges of aggravated assault, Gilfour said. The suspect and the victims live at an extended-stay motel on Division Street, Simpson said.
Arlington emergency personnel move a hit-and-run victim to an ambulance on Tuesday. Two people were hurt in the incident.
Okay, kid, but not until I ski the K12 and impress that cute French girl!
