It was a cold, calculated act of sadism.

A bit over the top, IMHO, Justin, and so was the rest of the article. That was a gentle and very proper medical examination. Contrast that with the acid baths and the shredder treatment he routinely gave his prisoners and I think you're recover your sense of perspective a bit.

The fellow looked like a wreck, to be sure. Would anything have been gained from concealing this from the world audience? Should we have waited before he was cleaned up (by us), shaven to his original "dignified" appearance (by us), dressed in a suit (by us), and finally allowed before the cameras?

I submit that that would have been contrary to your own oft-expressed preference for the truth, a deliberate artificiality crafted...to what purpose? To save the dignity of a man who had forfeited his own and had deliberately and systematically taken theirs, and their lives, from hundreds of thousands of victims? Here we have a man whose own programs included forcing husbands to watch their wives being raped, parents to watch their children being tortured, gassings, live burials, young women being fed to animals, and you're complaining about a dental examination? My friend, your priorities here are so far removed from reality that I am beginning to question your sanity.

You put into words what I felt and could not / would not express. You captured my instinctual revulsion.
