Duh! If I wasn't an American (please capitalize that word) I wouldn't be here. But I guess you have no concept of the word yourself. America was built upon the shoulders of people who dared to stand up to the British, and American continues to stand because of those who dare to stand up for truth.

America, actually described as North America, Central America,and South America,are continents.
Many contries are located in the Americas.
The USA is one of them.
Canadians are Americans, as are Mexicans, Brazillians, Peruvians, Hundurans etc.
Calling oneself American does not mean that one is actually a citizen of the USA.
Have I clarified my position?
You may consider it nitpicking,but I find the difference between calling oneself an American, or calling oneself a citizen of the USA to be very important.
