think3, the fastest growing company in the product lifecycle management (PLM) industry, today announced that former Andersen Consulting Chief Executive Officer George T. Shaheen has joined its board of directors.

During the 10 years Shaheen led Andersen Consulting (today known as Accenture), annual revenue of the global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing firm increased nine-fold to nearly $10 billion. Accenture ended its 2003 fiscal year with $11.82 billion in net revenue.

"think3 already has achieved many milestones on its road to global success," Shaheen said. "I look forward to working with think3's management team to bring to market industry-leading product design and data management solutions that leverage technology to improve efficiency, accuracy and creativity."

One of the keys to becoming an industry leader is expansion of think3's professional services organization. As a provider of world-class services, the group helps manufacturers optimize their product development processes. Since November 2002, think3 professional services organization has made significant contributions to the company's revenue growth -- think3 last month announced a 110 percent increase in third quarter revenues over the same period in 2002.

"George Shaheen is another great addition to our board. We now have a multi-faceted group that will provide comprehensive direction and support," said Joe Costello, think3 chairman and CEO. Including Shaheen and Costello, think3's board of directors is comprised of Rob Burgess, chairman and CEO of Macromedia, Inc.; Vladimir Jacimovic, managing director of Crosslink Capital; Mark Perry, general partner of New Enterprise Associates; and Filippo Zuccarello, think3 founder and chief financial officer.

"George's vast depth of knowledge and global industry prowess will be instrumental to think3 as we gain broad recognition as a trusted product development partner," Costello added.

In addition to think3, Shaheen is a director of Siebel Systems, Inc. and a member of the advisory board of the Marcus & Millichap Company. He has served as an IT Governor of the World Economic Forum, and is a member of the board of advisors for the Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

A rather ironic name for a company that hired the captain of the sunk Arthur Andersen accounting company that brought us so many failed corporate giants like Enron.

Any company that hires this consulting company had better do some due diligence on this guy.

They may have not been the same company when Arthur Andersen was caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but this guy had been in Andersen management for 10 years. Andersen was corrupt long before the split.

what is product lifecycle development. is it a blah, blah, blah?
meaning, does it PRODUCE anything or is just a company that invents ways to screw employees and maximize the profits of multinationals.

as far as i'm concerned these "consulting" firms are every bit as skanky as the trial lawyers.

Thank you for your post!

Actually a management consultant once said to me that his job was to find out what management wanted to do and then justify it. Ahem...

I'm not sure what they mean by "product lifecycle development" but the first thought to cross my mind was the 7 year? patent limitation. A company that has put a huge investment in R&D wants to ride the crest of the product demand in the marketplace to make money before other companies can grab onto their coattails (so to speak.)

Product Lifecycle Management relates to the management of the data associated with a new product from concept to end of life. Think3 produces a 3D modeling suite of software that is used to delelop new products. All the part and assembly information related to the product has to be managed--the numerous revisions to the product over its life, the distribution of the product data to suppliers, customers, employees, the tracking of the changes to the product etc. Think3 is a midrange modeling system competing with PTC, EDS/Unigraphics, Catia, SolidWorks, AutoDesk. PLM software sales/implementations generally far exceed the costs of just modeling software hence the interest in big hitters from the consulting world. Joe Costello formerly headed up Cadence, a very successful company in the electronic design automation business (Integrated chip design software used by anyone designing high density electronic chips).
