KUWAIT CITY : Saddam Hussein's fugitive number two, Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, may have surrendered to US-led coalition forces in Iraq, Kuwait Television reported on Tuesday, quoting its correspondent in Baghdad.
The correspondent said on air that "the information is not confirmed and is confusing." He said that according to the information, Duri had given himself up on Tuesday morning and that no more details were available.
An official at Kuwait Television later told AFP that the station's correspondent was quoting Iraqi sources that had told him Duri had surrendered.
Number six on the US wartime list of most wanted Iraqi officials, Duri is now the highest-ranking official of the former regime still at large.
He has a US$10 million bounty on his head.

Notice Katie and Judy Woodruff wearing their protest black on monday morning - this is too wierd as they ALWAYS do this on a good day for the president.

"He's been fairly defiant," an official told Fox News. "While he's talkative, he's provided nothing substantial. His comments are self-serving, lengthy rationalizations of his behavior, and he punctuates a lot of it with wise-ass and deflective remarks." Why don't they just shoot his ass with the latest truth serum drug du jour and get it over with? Or is that too obvious?

That's the way I took it.
Fox had Hamid Alkifaey from the Iraqi Governing Council on, and he has confirmed that he has heard the rumor. ;-)

With both The Spider Rat and al-Duri out of the picture, there's a good chance the insurgents will spend as much time bickering and attacking each other as they will committing terrorist attacks. It will really wreck their coherency. What we should do is release a senior insurgent. Drop him off in front of a known haunt for insurgents. Thank him profusely, and stuff a big wad of cash in his pocket. (c8
Naw, kidnap him and set him up in a high-end place in Qatar with "bodyguards" who are actually guards then "leak" all kinds of disinformation. >:)

Am I the only person who thinks al Douri looks Irish? You sure don't see many Iraqi's with red hair and freckles. Although his real father could be Red Buttons.

From the Saudi's I found this:
http://www.ain-al-yaqeen.com/issues/20031212/feat8en.htm Saad Mohammed Al-Duri was captured near Hawijah, 45 kilometres (28 miles) west of Kirkuk as rumours flew that his boss, Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, had been arrested or even killed. Hawijah police chief Awad Al-Obeidi said the man was arrested in a house where he had been hiding.
Kirkuk's police chief, General Turhan Yusef, said 40,000 dollars was found in the man's possession, which was ''suspected of being used to finance attacks on the US-led coalition.'' Across north-central Iraq, more than 100 people were nabbed in what Yusef decribed as a ''one-off operation aimed at finding Izzat Ibrahim based on specific intelligence.''
An official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the dominant Kurdish faction in Kirkuk, said a former general in the disbanded Iraqi army was also arrested in the raids, as was Hamid Saad, a senior official of Saddam's former ruling Baath party in charge of youth and student affairs.
Earlier, a senior police official in Kirkuk said US military had launched ''the biggest search operation ever'' in the area to hunt for Duri, the suspected paymaster of many attacks on the coalition. The operation was concentrated on Hawijah and the village of Rashad, 60 kilometers (37 miles) to the south, he added.

Good info, but it appears to be from articles written on 3-4 Dec, not related to this recent rumor. Cheers

I would not lose sleep over Howard Dean. He was on C-Span last night giving a speach. Boy if you think Bush is not very articulate, this guy is ten times less articulate. In addition, there are four Democratic Senators who are going to lose their seats as well next election. You might forcast a full sweep in November 2004.
