A tank made from two 55 gallon drums welded end to end and buried in the ground vertically, with the top end right at grade. Filled to the brim with 40 degree water from a sluice running by. Once the prisoner was in the pool, a grate made out of half inch rebar was placed over the top and secured. Then more water was tossed in through the grate, through which you are trying to breathe. Guaranteed to induce claustrophobia and fear of drowning. I think the max time anyone took for complete attitude recalibration was a minute or two. When I went through Pickel Meadows several of the instructors [Staff Sergeants and Gunnys] had been guests of the North Koreans, so they knew things. In addition to all of the nugget single seat drivers, my group included two people from Force Recon, one of whom broke down during the evasion phase - the point being we weren't getting any Lindt truffles under our pillows at night.
