Flu Shot Demand Rises Sharply BUT Don't Be Fooled

The deaths of at least five Colorado children in the past two weeks to the influenza virus, coupled with what experts predict will be an especially miserable flu season, have ratcheted up demand for the vaccine and stirred fear among some parents.

Over five years ago, I posted a warning on the flu vaccines. Now we have an advertising campaign for Flumist that will cost an estimated $25 million. Sounds like a lot but Wyeth, the flu vaccine maker, will be spending another $75 million to promote this vaccine to doctors, for a grand total of $100 million.

Now, $100 million may seem like a ton of money to spend on ads, but does anyone care to guess how much they anticipate making on this vaccine?

The answer is a cool $1 billion.

The "experts" will use fear to motivate people to get a flu vaccine, but this is yet another health care illusion. Let's be clear, flu can definitely be a killer disease and is not something that should be easily dismissed. But, remember that flu shots don't prevent illness -- never have, never will.

The flu vaccine can actually weaken the immune system and make you more predisposed to the illness.

Just remember, the flu vaccine is not the answer to avoiding the flu.

People are dying from the flu because they are already sick and have compromised immune systems. The majority of the cause is surely related to eating too much sugar and too many grains, getting inadequate rest.

Two years ago my hubby and I got the shot. We were great that year. Last year I got everything INCLUDING Mono at 42.
This year I was stupid (scared by a doctor) and got it. 4 weeks later I am still sick (runny eyes, blocked ears, sore throat).

NO WAY will I get this for my kids. I'd rather homeschool.

That's what I've always thought, and why I've never gotten one. This year I just got the flu instead, lol. Christmas shopping in a crowded store did me in, I think.

So the flu strikes those who have had flu vaccine more often than those who have not?

My own experience is that after having an especially vicious attack of flu that left me weakened for two months, I began taking flu shots. Over the last ten years, after I began taking the vaccine annually, I have had only one illness with symptoms even remotely resembling the flu.

I eat a lot of sugar, and get by on 5 hours (or less) sleep each night. And I've never had a flu shot, and rarely get sick. I've had the flu maybe 10 years ago. I think my hatred of liberals keeps my immune system strong.

The idea of taking those flu shots scares the crap out of me, because people I know who take them seem to get sick a lot.

That's silly! People, in 1919, died in HUGE numbers, from the Spanish Flu and ate far less sugar and grains, than they do now.

Flu shots don't " cure " the flu; they prevent or lessen the flu's syptoms, when one gets it.

Various strains of the flu have been killing people, from time immemorial. It has little to do with " compromised immune syptoms " and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that flu can and does KILLS!
