If the repubs pick up the 5 southern seats and somehow manage to pick up a couple more, it will still not be a fillibuster proof majority. It may be on judicial nominees, but thats about it. If the repubs get to 56-58 senators, it will significantly reduce the influence of the Rinos like Snowe, Chafee, McCain and Collins who don't support ANWAR, medicare overhaul, private accounts for Social Security, etc. The rebubs would need about 65 seats to truly have a fillibuster proof majority.
