So soon after yesterdays? Maybe this will be about what the plans are for Saddam?

Prediction (based on some earlier quotes): Kudos to the fine folks of the 4th ID, and this will certainly help things to settle down in Iraq. But as today's car bombings in Baghdad show, Iraq is still a dangerous place, etc....

Presidential address so soon after a brief address yesterday. My guesses on why so soon in order of probability:

1. Probable cause is a news conference on the back of such positive news.

2. Lots of times it's best to put out some difficult news immediately following some glowing news....they sort of balance out. (A decision to prevent the dollar's downward slide?)

3. Some awesome disclosure of intelligence reaped from yesterday's capture of Saddam.

Good idea, maybe that is it.
will there be an interim appointment while Colin gets well?
Or maybe they caught Al Duri, but that probably wouldnt warrant this.
To: r9etb
I think it was a slick move yestrerday just making a statement and leaving the questions for today after the opposition has gone on record.

    3. Some awesome disclosure of intelligence reaped from yesterday's capture of Saddam. Maybe to give us the name of the other top regime official capture after Hussein. If so, please be al-Douri!!

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20031215_860.html BAGHDAD, Iraq Dec. 15 Saddam Hussein's capture is reaping dividends for the U.S. military, providing intelligence that led to the arrest of several top regime figures in Baghdad, a U.S. general told The Associated Press on Monday. Suicide bombers attacked police stations in the capital, killing eight people as the insurgency showed no sign of letting up.
A member of the Iraqi Governing Council said Saddam could be put on trial in the next few weeks and face execution if convicted, though another member said it could take four to six months to begin the trial before a war crimes tribunal set up last week.

Wouldn't it be awsome if he reports Osama has been captured killed! I doubt that is it but it is exciting to think about.

Ditto your #12. We probably shouldn't get our hopes up too high, however, because President Bush has been willing to let the troops fighting in Iraq take credit for high profile targets who have been captured or killed.

Such a contrast with Clinton, who started every sentence with "I". Okay, so sometimes he started a sentence with "we" or "my administration"...

Probably to announce that Saddam will be tried by the Iraqis themselves and the trial will begin soon. To put a fast premature end to all this speculation about "internationalizing" the trial and get Saddam's gums a flappin' faster.

So soon after yesterdays? Yesterday wasn't a news conference, it was a statement with no questions. Today, it sounds like he's taking press inquiries.

I just heard Wes Clark say to Katie Couric, "...this was a relatively small step," referring to the capture of Saddam. What a dork. What an idiot.
