You have that right.
Mona Charen's book Useful Idiots details how the left DID rally around Hitler and other dictators. She has actual quotes that are quite astounding.
I'd never really bought into the idea that the left hates America and just thought they were ignorant. Her book changed my mind.

In the 1930s, the "liberals" of the day thought Communism and National Socialism were wonderful, the wave of the future. Hitler and Stalin were their heroes.
