SPOILER ALERT SKIP IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN RED DAWN (you really should see it)
Posting spoilers without warnings is wrong, btw.
Anyway, mtbopfuyn, you're right that the kids in the movie are pretty much dead meat, but let's not forget that the end of the movie has sort of a flashback viewpoint to the Wolverines as the people who led the resistance, and eventually, freedom DOES win again, even in the movie. It's a dark picture but a great one.
WOLVERINES!!!!!

I knew it! Man, this is a great movie. And liberals hate, hate, HATE it. Does this get any better? :)
My favorite exchange in the movie comes when the Wolverines meet up with a downed U.S. fighter pilot who gives them the heads-up on how the war's been going. He tells them the Europeans are taking a pass (that freakin' figures), then:
JED: Well, who IS on our side?
PILOT: Six hundred million screamin' Chinamen.
MATT: I thought there were a BILLION screamin' Chinamen.
PILOT (grimly): There WERE.

What is the explanation for having Red China on the side of the US? (Now you've got me wanting to see the movie... I haven't seen it since it was on TV in the 80's and can't remember much of it.)

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. The Soviets attacked us, China hates the USSR, so now (in the movie) we are allies. I also gather China is pissed because there are 400 million dead Chinese.
Fast Forward 20 years, today, I think it is more likely that the US and Russia would be allies against the Chinese.

One of my favorite movies as well. 'Course in '84, I loved it for Swayze...now I know better. (He's just a bonus!) I suppose it struck home to me because the boys that get away were just like all the boys I knew. Blessed to know how to survive and shoot. I worry about people in the cities who think milk comes from the corner market and that's it. The entire theme of the movie just rings true. Proud VRWC member...

It seems that more of our boys in Iraq like the movie, too. Let's hope that they remember it well once they retire and come home. The Republic needs lots of citizens that value freedom and liberty, particularly the type that knows how to perform specialized tasks at critical times.

Actually, the Colonel (Powers Boothe) throws some whiskey into the campfire, causing it to flare up into a fireball. He's referring to the Soviets nuking the Chinese. That's how a billion Chinamen became 800 million.
:)
It's a GREAT movie. I've been it dozens of times. I can almost recite every line.
WOLVERINES !!!!!
Also, Back to the Future is another favorite

Posting spoilers without warnings is wrong, btw.Spoiling??? You've got to be kidding when the movie is nearly 2 decades old.

Yeah, yeah, I know. But if you'd never seen Casablanca would you want to know the ending? How about the ending to The Usual Suspects?
I'm with you that most people know or have seen it. But we're talking about a new group of people who might not have. I swear, the hash group I'm in here there are people falling over laughing at old Dice material--it's all new to them. Better to let them enjoy a great movie like that themselves the first time.
I only wish we could get "Amerika" on video. Not as good as Red Dawn, but it's in the same vein. I still can't believe Kris Kristofferson starred in it. What a hypocrite--pro-commie star in anti-commie picture.
WOLVERINES!!!!!
P.S. I hate Michigan. That's the only thing that sucks about hollering that--people who might not have seen Red Dawn might think I like that $#!#hole state or its $#!#hole university.

Hey... in Red Dawn, weren't the local guys with Kalashnikovs fighting the foreign invaders who have tanks and helicopters, the good guys?
