He was killed in a sky-diving accident. It was kind of typical of the way he lived his life. Beloved figure in Philly from the late 60s until his death in the late 70s.I grew up in Southwest Philly, listening to Jim O'Brien on "Famous 56", WFIL, and also as the Weatherman on Channel 6. I still remember the day he died. The whole city was in shock - it was like losing a member of the family.

I agree. He was such a good-natured, fun-loving guy. He was on WFIL when they also had jocks like Jim Nettleton and Dr. Donald E. Rose. Doing the weather was just a platform for him to do his act. By all accounts, not a mean bone in his body.
