FNC now reporting that raid was initiated based on local intel. Task Force 21, involving Spec Forces and US Intel Officers, followed up on lead in Tikrit. Hussein was found in a basement. He did not put any significant resistance. Soldiers entered the building, no exchange of fire, they captured him.

They then confirmed by various markings on his body and matched scars on Saddam Hussein.

TIKRIT, Iraq – In an early morning raid in Tikrit on Dec. 11, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment soldiers captured four Fedayeen members and confiscated a significant amount of weapons and ammunition that were hidden throughout the house including under the mattresses of sleeping children and buried in the garden.
