Blasts in three Turkish cities
From correspondents in Istanbul
December 13, 2003
BOMB blasts shook Turkey's three leading cities, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, today but without causing casualties or major damage, Anatolia news agency reported.
One bomb went off beside the main courthouse in the capital Ankara, followed by a blast in a street beside a police station in Izmir which broke nearby house and car windows, the report said.
Police were hunting two people seen hurrying from the scene.
A third explosion occurred outside a courthouse in Izmir as a police bomb disposal squad was about to arrive on the scene to examine a suspect package.
A home-made device exploded near a courthouse on the European side of Istanbul. There was no damage.
Meanwhile, another suspect was detained today in connection with the suicide bombings in Istanbul on November 15 and 20, taking the total number of arrests to 32, Anatolia reported.
Sixty-one people, including four bombers, were killed in the bombing of two synagogues, the British consulate and the offices of the London-based HSBC bank.
Turkey says Turkish nationals with links to al-Qaeda were behind the Istanbul bombings and has indicated it is seeking several key suspects abroad.

ESP is right--I warned Turkey she will have problems down the road for helping in al-Qaeda's aims in Chechnya and the Balkans....

For what reason? If they think this will get them (the terrorists) a better quality of life, they are mistaken. This will only set them back furthur. If they want to live in the real world, they had better start making friends with the U.S. as soon as possible.

This is just anothr classic left-wing radical attack which has nothing to do with Al-Qaida and usually targets police stations or banks. The bombs are always little home-made pipe bombs that can only wound you if you are sitting on them. The objective is to make some noise and get mentioned on the evening news.

Well this could be al-Qaeda
or it could be any of the other 50 terrorist groups
which have been setting off bombs
for several decades.

Aren't these the usual work of anti-NATO lefties at this time of year?
Trust me, there's almost never any doubt when it's al-Qaeda doing this stuff.

The story doesn't even say that al-Qaeda was responsible. Somebody in the Turkish government apparently made the very weak claim that the people responsible had "links to al-Qaeda". What is a "link" anyway? It could be almost anything.
