I read the book about forty-five years ago so I remembered the character but not his name. As I recall, Felix annoyed Monroe Alpha by refering to the credit computer as the "money machine".
The book was one of the first of Heinlein's that had an unfocused and rambling storyline. I've always wondered if Heinlein's brain disorder affected his writing.
But, the genetic engineering theme was pretty prophetic wasn't it?
