Long Beach "Large Caliber Ban" vote is 12/16
The second reading of a politically driven city ordinance is scheduled on 12/16. While no public comment will be taken, your phone calls, emails and faxes will help deter passage.
Even though a fifty-caliber firearm has never been used to commit a crime, and although law enforcement officials admit that these firearms are undesirable to criminals, the Long Beach City Council will vote on an ordinance that would ban the sale of these primarily single action target and big game hunting rifles and handguns. The ordinance even bans all "transfers," so even temporarily letting a friend hold one of these firearms would be a crime. See Agenda Item 25, http://www.ci.long-beach.ca.us/cityclerk/acrob/2003/121603.pdf
This is NOT a local issue. This proposal is being advanced as part of an effort to pass the same law in other California cities, counties and at the state and federal level. This affects every California gun-owner, even if you do not live in Long Beach! Because of this attempt to have statewide influence, you have the right to be heard from wherever you live! See: http://NRAMembersCouncils.com/legs.shtml
This proposal is the latest effort from the gun ban lobby to incrementally attack the right to choose to own a gun. If they succeed in using this rationale to ban a hunting and target gun that has never been criminally misused, that same rationale can be used to progressively ban less powerful rifles, about which similar distortions can be made. Proponents have sought to characterize this proposal as a terrorism prevention measure. Characterizing the fifty-caliber rifle as a terrorist tool is nothing but shameful political opportunism. A fifty-caliber rifle would be peashooter for terrorists. And, NRA has discovered that there are only three licensed gun dealers left in Long Beach. Those remaining retailers, who can easily be monitored by the Long Beach Police Department, do not stock and have not sold fifty-caliber rifles. The ordinance will accomplish nothing other than to turn target shooters into criminals.
Please join us in fighting this proposal. The City Council needs to hear from you, particularly the swing voters identified in our November alert (the first reading) at: http://NRAMembersCouncils.com/longbeach/alerts/110303.shtml
1. Visit our Opposition Headquarters website at: www.NRAMembersCouncils.com for information and for the truth about these firearms.
2. Contact the City Council members IMMEDIATELY and voice your concerns about this outrageous political travesty at law-abiding gun-owners expense.
3. Finally, do the same for the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors where the anti-gunners are trying to pass the same egregious agenda. Contact tools, including the popular ONE-CLICK message system, for these and other issues are available at: http://NRAMembersCouncils.com/legs.shtml

If you have a copy of the book, "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross, send one their way. Tell them the entire council needs to read it, then vote on the ban.

Travis McGee - didn't I meat you at a gunshow in Albuquerque sometime during the 2000 election cycle? I thought so, but it may be someone else - I was running a booth at the show partly for my campaign for state house, partly for my organization, the New Mexico Gun Owner's Forum.

Our RATIFIED Constitution's 2nd and 14th Amendment, backed by millions of heavily armed and deadly serious Constitutionalists sworn to defend our only Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, affirm even white guys with fifty calibre Homeland Defense arms rights.
It is impolite to shoot 'em, so screw 'em. Civil Rights is RIGHT now, even on the Left Coast.
The 9th's "2nd" sedition shall not stand.

That guy up there is not me, this is me:----

You can find out about the book by going to this link----
The first 20 chapters are posted there, so you can find out exactly what the book is about. It doesn't have the raunchy three way sex with strippers that U.C. featured, for one thing. I also think it's more realistic, but of course that's my opinion.
It's ultimately about the meaning of "defending the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic," as the title suggests.

I'll do that! And I might ask for some advice on my travel plans. I'm doing a writer's recon for my next book, much of which will take place in northern NM and Albq.

While they are at it, I think it would be a good idea to plan for the future by outlawing 188mm pistols, space guns, rubber band guns, potato guns, soldering guns, caulking guns, and cap pistols. That is the only "safe" way to insure that irresponsible people are protected from themselves.

If Long Beach's powerbrokers think banning weapons that have never been used in crime will make things safer, they might well be equally convinced that disarming the police would be a good idea.
So, hey, whatabout it Long Beach? Take the guns off those cops, eh?!

Travis having read yours and UC I like them both. UC has a longer story line then years and in a longer read. Uc does point out a lot of historcal facts ect.
Never less your book is a very good read and has many good thoughts in it. By the way my brother and I have gotten rid of most of the 10 books we brought from you.

A few years ago, one of our subcontractors, now a personal friend, came to San Antonio on busines. A co-worker and I took him to the gun range to shoot the co-worker's M-2 carbine, along with other guns of course. The friend at that time owned several, maybe a dozen, AR-15s but has since sold them because of the CA laws and the cavilier way in which today's legal firearm could be become tomorrows contraband by the stroke of a pen.
The owner/operator of the range, when told that our friend was from California, expressed the notion that Californians should be asshamed to have foisted Fienstein, Boxer, and others, off on the nation. He then said "You folks should vote with a rope!".
