FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CIVIL AFFAIRS WORKS TOWARD A STABLE AND FREE IRAQ
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The 82d Airborne Division and attached units, also known as Task Force All American, continued civil affairs operations to further reconstruction efforts within the Al Anbar Province.
Civil Affairs (CA) personnel conducted a meeting at the Al Zedan Water Treatment Facility and initiated repairs of two water treatment plants in the area. The estimated cost of the projects is $20,000. Work on the plants began December 1st and will be completed by January 31st. These efforts will positively impact over 150,000 residents with the availability of potable water for the first time in 15 years.
CA teams met with local officials and initiated payment of $8,000 for the rehabilitation of eight primary and secondary schools in Khalidiyah. All of the schools require significant repairs due to their poor condition. Work is scheduled to begin on December 15th and local leaders continue to express their appreciation for coalition efforts in improving education in the area.
CA teams also met with local officials and the interim police chief of Al Qaim to discuss their plan to hire a new police chief. The current interim chief announced that he is quitting the police force at the end of December to have heart surgery. The police chief controls 309 officers in the Al Qaim region, who serve and protect over 125,000 people.
In addition, $477,000 has been allocated for construction of border crossing facilities at Ar Ar. This will significantly enhance preparations for the Hajj.
Cooperation efforts between Iraqis and Task Force All American continue to grow as Iraqis become more confident in controlling and providing a more stable environment for the Al Anbar Province.

Oh oh, the Haj, that's going to make for some pretty dangerous times. A lot of terrorists could come across along with the pilgrams. God watch over our troops AND the Iraqis.
