I have noted the change over from Christmas to Holiday so as not to offend Jews, Moslems etc... The worst thing I have seen is changing it from the "Holidays" to The "Gift Giving Season". Christmas has become nothing but a modern day potlatch. Is anyone really happy at Christmas? I don't see it at the malls. Even the kids--are not happy 20 minutes after they rip open the gifts. they never get exactly what the TV tells them they must have.

Is anyone really happy at Christmas? Sure. Those who attend a Christmas candlelight service or sing or sit in the audience at the annual Handel performance seem quite jovial.

Is anyone really happy at Christmas? I believe that the majority of those of us who recognize the real reason for celebrating Christmas are happy at this time of year.

I wish I had the fix for this. Actually, I know the fix, I wish I could apply it. I'm trapped as well. I fully want to quit all of this gift exchange -the way it is today. I've reduced my spending to minimal. Each child gets A gift -an inexpensive gift, practical. (no children of my own) Once when I was 14 I got a set of bed sheets for my bed from an Aunt. I'm sure I was disappointed -but that very gift taught me which gifts give enjoyment all year long. Magazine subscriptions, the like... Thinking the other idea would be to turn off the tv.
