Help is available for sure. However, often people don't recognize that depression is the problem, or don't realize how it can distort reality. If one is self-critical, or a perfectionist, or perhaps a bit obsessive-compulsive, simply admitting there may be a problem, or that you can't solve it all by yourself, is a big hurdle.

So true. This is why it is important to put the symptoms of depression in a short list where they can meet the gaze of the suffering. I can remember well searching the internet in 1997, learning these things, and over about six months, deciding to reach out.

Bingo on that for me. It's all in my head . . . it MUST be, since life is otherwise good . . . I should just snap out of it.

And then when you don't just snap out of it, you blame yourself for being weak-minded and wimpy, and it gets worse.

Been THERE before.
