One of these days I'm going to get myself a black Lab and just absolutely love the hell out of it. I think it would be a great help.

A black lab? I don't know. I "inherited" my best friend's black lab and she is just about the dumbest, stinkiest, uncooperative creature I've ever come across. LOL! We call her Stinkerbelle, the big black tick.
I think she didn't get much good up-raising. Poor thing.

You know P.. I am over 50 & have never
had a dog. Had LOTS of kitties.
2 years ago while kayaking -- low & behold there is a drain pipe was a skinny dog.
well, that dog is OLIVER (all-over) and my best pal & constant companion & acivity partner.
It was God's gift in so many ways.. can't even begin to explain.
God will give you your doggie.. you wont have to look.. and it may or may ot be a lab! (mine is half german shep & half golden retriever according to vet)
A big horsie that thinks he is a lap dog

And if you haven't already, I recommend reading James Michener's book Chesapeake. Good historical novel with interesting info about Retrievers.
