I work with scientists in this field. A 12% difference in the genome is huge when it comes to how the genes are expressed.

The genetic code has turned out to be far more complex than just one gene-one protein.

Chimps are not near-humans.

Except that it's 1.2 percent. Humans and chimps are 98.8 percent indentical...
