[history]
The White House yesterday said a new immigration review is under way that could lead to amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living and working in the United States.
Confirmation of the review came during a White House briefing, just two days after Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said during a town hall meeting in Miami that the government had to "afford some kind of legal status" to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens in the country.

Oh BTW, we wouldn't have an immigration problem if Mexico got it's house in order. That's a tough job but one that can't be ignored since we share close to a 2,000 mile border with them.

"Rhetoric like that pushes hard working and family oriented hispanics(legal ones who were born here) right into the arms of Hillary."
What they should do, the good legal ones, is help their country and turn in the criminal element that is ruining the legacy of their heritage. If they condone illegal behavior they can't be too family-oriented in my book. Aiding & abetting is also criminal. If you want & like pandering so much - support the criminals & be happy when they vote for your candidate.

Oh yeah, I am supposed to beleive the article you linked in your reply #58 by Sam Francis. Didn't he get kicked off the National Review for racist remarks and basically is a white supremicist.
I don't know what you fear from hispanics. Well it was the same way I guess a hundred years ago, when your politcal persuasion was shouting about the Italians, Jews, Irish and Polish and how they were going to destroy the country.

Why is that of any concern to me? I care for my neighbors, but I'm not responsible if they screw up their own lives. Charity begins at home & we should all start to ralize that simple fact. What are we suppossed to do, nation-build in Mexico - I don't think so.

"when your politcal persuasion was shouting about the Italians, Jews, Irish and Polish and how they were going to destroy the country."Nice to know you think of Republicans that way. Oh and a FYI, last I checked those folks that came here 100 years ago came here "Legally", but then I guess that is too much for your mind to grasp. Also would be kind of hard to "shout" at ones own ancessors, but Gasp, guess you thought I was one of those "Purebreds", it's the so called "Purebreds" that have us in our current cituation. <<<---(American!!!)German/English/American Indian/Irish and D*MN proud of it.

He could start by rounding them up and deporting them as fast as he can find them. But, wait maybe that's a little harsh for a compassionate "conservative."

Making them legal taxpayers, will. Sorry, they are net tax consumers. Jorge is proposing to allow more people riding in the wagon, not more people pulling it.

What is wrong with trying to capture the hispanic vote. The vast majority are hard working, religious, and family oriented. For one, it is an appeasement that is really an insult. Its like trying to capture the "black vote" by giving amnesty to carjackers and crack dealers. I haven't met a single "hispanic" who would be more likely to vote for Bush if he pushed through an amnesty.

We need to get mobilized, and respond in one big loud voice of
NO!!! in response to this trial balloon. It needs to be shot down at once with the threat that we will stay home on election day in 2004 in protest.
That really, at the end of the day, is the ONLY THING GRAND STRATEGIST KARL ROVE and the GOP National Headquarters will understand, coming from Conservatives.
Appealing to their patriotism, common sense, and fairness (toward legal immigrants) will NOT resonate and will fall upon deaf ears.
Appealing to their vote-getting psyche, will register.

"What is your solution"?
The simple solution to not to REWARD these illegals. Period! Is it too much to ask that the word "Illegal" which means against the law, is defined and enforced? Cut them off. No free health care and entitlements. They are ILLEGAL.
What is so hard to understand about the word "ILLEGAL"?
My ancestors came over on the boat from Italy. They had papers, a sponsor and after they were deloused, sent out to find a job, mostly hauling water buckets in the steal mills of Pittsburgh. They were entitled to NOTHING but the chance to be here, LEGALLY.
The ILLEGALS pouring into our Country daily are going to bankrupt our future entitlements. Count on it.

The editorial says nothing about what to do about the ones already here.
JMO, but it seems the Washington Times is proposing the staus quo, a wink, wink, nod, nod to illegal immigrants.

Can you explain to me then, why they are even EXAMINING giving legal status to people whose first step to enter our country was to disrespect it's laws?
Bush, who has played the tough on crime candidate?
This is such a no-brainer.
I don't lay the blame for everything wrong at the white house - only the things they are directly responsible for.
You know, like CFR and immigration policy.

If you have no solution, you are part of the problem, Dane-san. You are a good guy, but you are a naysayer to the core. Your devil's advocate position is respected and needed, but it does NOT solve the problem. So either lead, follow, or get out of the way, please. Thanks. :-)
