The White House yesterday said a new immigration review is under way that could lead to amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living and working in the United States.

Confirmation of the review came during a White House briefing, just two days after Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said during a town hall meeting in Miami that the government had to "afford some kind of legal status" to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens in the country.

How about writing in Tom Tancredo? If enough of us do it... who knows?

Won't work and you know it

The Republican Party, just like the Democratic Party, has its opposite members. There are conservatives in the Republican Party, and even some conservatives who are in the Democratic Party, and there are liberals in the Republican Party. There is no conservative - only party and there never will be one in the mainstream.

The era of true conservatism is over and government will continue to increase no matter who is in the presidency. It may be a little slower if a Republican is there, but it will nevertheless continue to grow and grow and grow.

As a result of it growing, the population of the US, and those growing up, will begin to expect more of what the government is supposed to give them, and expect more of the services the goverment is supposed to give them.

They will want more and more, and people will be quick to run on platforms supporting this.

This is what is happening and there is no stopping it. It is inevitable.

And all this talk about the GOP trying to destroy the Demcorats, by getting their voters to vote for the GOP, and then when they are in large Congressional majority, they will go back to true conservative is a bunch of boloney as well. Think about it. They will have to play to those voters they have swayed or risk being voted out! Those voters who FAVOR national healthcare, medicare, big government, benefits to illegal immigrants, world government, etc.

I cannot believe we are being betrayed by this administration, and openly at that. Maybe they are trying to buy votes, who knows.

YOU DO NOT REWARD ILLEGAL ACTIONS.

The cities and states aren't getting help from the feds to enforce the immigration laws. The feds won't even come take the criminals if the local cops arrest them on federal charges.

Actually, the process of identifying the illegals would not be all that difficult: They have been issued Consular Matricula cards, they have no driver's licenses, they have no SS cards, etc. (at least, most of them don't). Then you strike deals with some of them for turning in numbers of other illegals, and put the squeeze on their employers, since hiring illegals is in intsel illegal (I know that may not sit well with your apparent sense of decency, but we are faced with the destruction of our culture and our society here, and sometimes "not-so-nice" actions have to be taken). Go to the employers who hire them and ask to see their records. No clear and objective evidence they are legal, and that starts the ball rolling for deportation.

Politicans have been telling us for years that this or that amnesty is just a way to get them documented so we can get a handle on the illegals in this country and work out a plan.President Reagan(The best President Period!), even got hornswagled into an amnesty, and 15 years later we have 10 times as many illegals and still no "Plan".I will add my voice to the DEPORT!!!!! crowd.

1) It was a way to document them and get a handle on some of them here (at that time)

2) What (IMO) is ONE of the biggest problem and why there are so many illegals is because of all the freebies that the state, city and local governments offer them.

3) curb these freebies and we will get a better handle on illegals coming here.

4) I'm not saying that you shouldn't voice you concerns. Just asking for you to see the whole picture and what is involved.

We can round them all up and deport them .. but is doesn't solve the main problem and they will just come back

I won't deny that is also a problem

I'm just saying there are problems on both sides

Maybe not at winning the election outright, but if a substantial movement gets underway Bush and the Republicans could see the political dangers to illegal alien pandering and forget about it. They have to feel pressure over this.

This is a big problem in and of itself and it rewards illegal behavior.

If the administration is unwilling to deal with the illegals in a tougher manner (one which would probably upset some people in this country) then maybe they need to, like many others in this thread have said, go after the employers.

If you nail the employers, the jobs will dry up for illegals and couple that with getting rid of some of the freebies and the US becomes a less friendly place to sneak into.

"Bush has accelerated US statist expansion."

Likely because we let him get away with things that we'd never let a liberal get away with just because he's an "R".

Just one problem .. but it will be after the election and throwing your vote away will only give the Dems the White House .. does 1992 ring a bell?

And trust me .. that is the last thing we need right now

Look, I have no problems letting President Bush and the RNC know how you feel about the issue

I'm just saying that we also need to address the reason why the illegals are coming here .

If we get a handle on that .. we might get a handle on curbing them from coming here illegally

That is not a bad idea .. but we also need to deal with the State, City and Local governments and well as the problems in the Fed Gov.

Au contraire. Your comments had appeasement written all over them. Appeasement is surrender. Just ask Neville Chamberlain and Quisling.

They will only come back if we give them welfare and jobs.

Use the existing RICCO law to confiscate the assets of anyone caught hiring or harboring them, including homeowners, farmers and corporations like Tyson and Wal-Mart, and the jobs will dry up. Make everyone who uses a government service including a hospital show a valid government issued ID, then arrest the criminals when they show up there and the problem is solved.

This plan requires no increase in expenditures and could make lots of money if the government were to confiscate the assets of a Tyson Foods or Wal-Mart, Inc.

All that has to be done is to enforce the laws like the feds are sworn to do.

We should be going after those who employ illegals. But, as the GOP is thought to be the friend of business, people get skittish about attacking any business practices. But as a resident of L.A., soon to be known as "little Baja" if things keep up like this, I couldn't care less about offending businesses. If they are hiring illegals they are breaking the law and should be punished.
