December 11, 2003: Search By Number
Gary Price points out that in their quest to become the command line of the Internet, Google has added several new features: you can now enter UPS (1Z1234567891234567) and FedEx (fedex 999999999999), patent (patent 5123123), airplane (n199ua), and FCC equipment (fcc B4Z-34009-PIR) ID/tracking numbers.
Fun stuff.

KEYWORDS: aaronswartz; faa; fcc; federalexpress; fedex; google; patents; unitedparcelservice; ups; uspatoff; usps
Just thought this might be of use to some Freepers.
Here's the instructions from Google's help page:
Parcel tracking IDs, patents and other specialized numbers can be entered into Google's search box for quick access to information about them. For example, typing "fedex" followed by a space and a FedEx tracking number will return the latest information on your package. Other special search by number types include:
|
UPS tracking numbers |
example search: "1Z9999W999999999" |
|
FedEx tracking numbers |
example search: "fedex 999999999999" Remember to put the word "fedex" before your tracking number. |
|
Patent numbers |
example search: "patent 5123123" Remember to put the word "patent" before your patent number. |
|
FAA airplane registration numbers |
example search: "n199ua" An airplane's FAA registration number is typically printed on its tail. |
|
FCC equipment IDs |
example search: "fcc B4Z-34009-PIR" Remember to put the word "fcc" before the equipment ID. |
Are there other types of numbers you'd like Google to search? Please email us at suggestions@google.com.

They just added some more value to the IPO this Spring. I happened to read an article about the two young men who created Google, and they will become billionaires the day they go public. Good for them.
We are so lucky to live in a country that makes things like this possible. Please God don't let the lib/commies take this away from us.

Oh, Im sure they are like most of those other thirty-something liberal type wonder boys in Silicon Valley who dont understand what America is all about. I sure hope they dont use their fortune to try and bring down the very system that allowed them to be rich.
My broader point was meant to be a tribute to our system, but thanks again for the post.
