The good citizens of Mecca, California should petition for an
IMMEDIATE name change for their fair city.
It is such an unfortunate name, it reminds me of the Saturday Night Live skit where they interview Al & Susan Qaeda and the recent problems they've experienced...

Being just a few miles away from there, I think I can safely say that there is virtually not a word of English spoken in that Mecca...you probably hear it more in the "other" Mecca.
Once you get east and south of Indio, English is pretty much an unknown language.
