The Aztecs were a terrible people. If the Spanish had not come--the other natives of Mexico would have put an end to their bloody rule. Many Natives Helped the Spanish take out the Aztecs. Only Socialist elements in the Mexican Revolution of 1910-20 highlighted the Aztecs to counter the European (Spanish) culture that was so powerful in Mexico.
A US Team should Not use this symbol! Better to use another emblem like Valero, the Mission Indian who lead a revolt against the Spanish Padres.

PS: theres a bunch of people in Mexico and the US going around claiming to do Aztec dances and picking up some cash. When I asked some of them how they authenticated the dances, they get defensive. Some admit, just from another dancer. The costumes ae nce though! LOL!

Don't pick on the Spanish padres of old California - they bought Western civ there first. They had a lot of hardships - sickness, hostile tribes, pirates, remoteness...The Mission at Capristano was open in 1776 - they can also be called founders.
