New effort underway to protect immigrant workers

DENVER – The federal government is part of a new effort to try and improve safety for immigrant workers.

According to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Spanish-speaking workers in Colorado get hurt on the job at a disproportionately higher level than non-Hispanics. The agency says immigrant workers often do not feel comfortable speaking out when they see unsafe conditions at work.

Three federal agencies and the Mexican consulate in Denver have promised to work together to improve the lives of Hispanic workers in Colorado and to get them the information they need to know their rights.

This is the first time in Colorado history that OSHA, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission have formed an alliance with the Mexican consulate. The joint venture was announced Wednesday at an event at the Mexican consulate.

Together, the federal agencies and the Mexican government plan to go out to farm fields, construction sites, restaurants and other job sites to let employees and employers know that no matter what their immigrant status, federal laws protect workers.

This *is* a problem that the federal government abets through their tepid enforcement of immigration law. Employers *do* take advantage of illegals.

A local "businessman" paid a couple of illegals to rip asbestos out of an old building being renovated. No masks, no protection.

Item 9: Watch for further replacement of individual rights for group rights, group rights based on ethnic group. Empires employ this method to enlist certain favored groups in suppressing the others, and racist affirmative action is a classic example of this replacement of our rights as individuals by a race based system of penalties and special privileges. Then the powers that be have only to pay off the leaders of these favored groups, a relatively easy task. Every time you hear the racist euphemism affirmative action, think Civil War II.

OR, maybe Pablo can't READ ENGLISH, and therefore is UNAWARE of the dangers!!!

Just as I, not knowing Spanish, feel that I am at risk if I go to Mexico, Guatemala, Mexi-Cali and South Florida!

Or Pablo KNOWS that worker's comp is a LOT better than actually working!
