It a good question ......If I had my druthers, I certainly wouldn't sign him. Not only is he oft-injured and at the end of his career, but the one time he made it to the big dance (against the Yankees) he pitched some of the worst ball of his career.

Come on Moj! This is V-W Day! Ding-dong the witch is dead!! Jeff Weaver was Yankee cyanide, while Brown is a capable pro. I thought his performance ('98, SD?)against the Yanks was merely mediocre...

The only fear and downside to this is injuries, but if Boomer could come back, then so should Brown.

OTOH, what were Cashman and Steinbrenner thinkin' by not retaining Pettitte??

You would have loved Mike and the Mad Dog's hammering of Cashman on their show yesterday. Cashman admitted a $52m/4 deal may have kept Pettitte, and at that, they dangled it but with all kinds of strings. Ultimately Cashman then personally admitted he didn't think Pettitte was worth it! Dog and Francesa were both livid! The two of them not only thought he was deserved of it, but wondered how Cashman could let a guy like this walk IN HIS PRIME, when the Yanks were flinging at anybody and everybody millions for nominal players like Mondesi, Karsay, etal. The $39m the Yanks offered in Andy's mind wasn't enough for him to have stayed in NY over "home-town" Houston, but that $52m was....

The Yanks shot themselves this time -- you don't replace Andy arm, NOR character and leadership.
