[history]
Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge's suggestion that 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens now in the United States be "legalized" drew harsh criticism yesterday from congressional and other opponents of such legalization.
Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican and chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, said Mr. Ridge should resign if he is unable or unwilling to enforce immigration laws enacted by Congress.

Unbelievable. What a week. One thing after another, all bad...What is really unbelievable is that some are actually trying to pass this administration off as being conservative....
After reading what Ridge said yesterday, there is no doubt, the lunatics are in charge of the asylum.

"That's because the administration knows that Republicans will not dare vote for anyone other than Bush." I was born a Republican. Both parents. My mother, now deceased, was very active in the local Republican party. Both were very conservative and warned against "Rockefellow Republicans". The only time I didn't vote was the Carter, Ford election. Otherwise, straight Republican. This time, I'll take my Mothers advice. I'll either vote Dim, 3rd party or sit this one out. I will not vote Bush.

I am not about to argue immigration with you or anyone else. I am sick of legal and illegal immigration with so many government subsidies. I do feel sorry for those who are playing by the rules and not dependant on the American taxpayer.

Both were very conservative and warned against "Rockefellow Republicans". Your mother was right about Rockefeller Republicans. For conservatives in NY State he invented the term RINO and his philosophy of "big but good government " represents about 90% of the Republicans in the Northeast.

After reading what Ridge said yesterday, there is no doubt, the lunatics are in charge of the asylum. Sometimes it seems that way, the thought of the director of Homeland Security saying that to improve security we should reward millions of lawbreakers can't get anymore Orwellian.

My Mother was right about alot. This will be the first time that none of her descendants will be voting Republican.

I am ashamed of our AZ congressmen for supporting this legislation. They are RINOs of the highest degree and would hope that they would be kicked out of office for their treasonous actions even if that means electing a democrat by default.

If the order came from the top then Tom Ridge should have resigned in protest. This is selling out our country while our men and women are dying in Iraq.
All legal immigrants who have committed a crime and all illegal aliens should be rounded up and deported. And it is not difficult to implement.

It'd be easy to start if we could fine and jail the employers of these illegals--then we'd be halfway home to getting the job done.

"We should match willing workers with willing employers," White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said, responding to inquiries. That's an even stupider statement than Ridge's.
"The president believes America should be a welcoming country, a welcoming society. We're a nation of immigrants. Migration should be safe, orderly and humane."
How about LEGAL???

administration knows that Republicans will not dare vote for anyone other than Bush Correction: the administration THINKS that Republicans will not dare vote for anyone other than Bush. They are wrong again.
To: janetgreen
I've seen many responses from Freepers that think this way. They will vote republican no matter how much they get trampled on issues. I can't wait for the AWB to hit his desk then there will be no issue left on the table to waffle over. Although I predict they will support him whether he signs it or not.

"That's because the administration knows that Republicans will not dare vote for anyone other than Bush."
That is exactly the thinking. That is why the Reps in Congress are letting socialist attack dogs and activists run wild in pushing their agendas, while not saying a word.
For 8 months, I have been thinking, "Why are they saying nothing, letting the pres be ASSAULTED, letting conservs be gutted, etc/"
Now its clear. By going left, they think victory is guaranteed. And people like us get F'ed. (sorry)
And as far as the Bush philosophy goes: 'Companies need illegal workers', so screw everyone else... I keep asking myself the same question: Why am I playing by the rules and why should I continue to do so when no one else is, and the pres is telling me not to.
Why not hire illegals and avoid all the taxes? I play by the rules and I still get notices from the IRS shaking me down or questioning something on a regular basis. So I'm paying more than I should. Right? And THEN getting kicked in the ass while paying the freight for illegals.
With a huge corruption problem in all facets of US business and in institutions, do we want to foster a policy that encourages more? What is wrong with them?

It sounds to me that the Bush administration will need to make document fraud and document theft a non-crime. If Ridge wants to legallize all the felony criminals who have been dealing in stolen and fraudulent Social Security numbers and other documents ---- then he is planning to legalize their crime.
I'll get a few fake Social Security numbers myself maybe --- use them for various purposes ----- just like the illegals do now.

No, and that's why I will not vote for Bush in '04 if it looks as though he will continue this into his next four years.
I have e-mailed the White House to say as much as well.
I don't even know who this guy is anymore. Aside from being willing to beef up the military and go after the scumbags who have us targeted, and the meager tax cut (and I say meager because the my state and local governments have already taken that and more to make up for their shortfalls) I can't honestly say I believe he's a true republican let alone conservative.
To: texastoo
I'll either vote Dim, 3rd party or sit this one out. I will not vote Bush. Oh, good grief. This truly is voting for the greater of two evils.
To: Conservativegreatgrandma
The Constitution party is a 3rd party and not evil or a bad choice.
