CHICAGO, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- A Chicago woman, accused of leaving her nine children home unattended, told police she had to go and have sex to make the rent money.
Thirty-year-old Tonia S. Haywood was arrested for felony abandonment for leaving her children alone for four days last week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. She is being held in lieu of $60,000 in bail.
A tipster informed police that Haywood left the children in the care of her 14- year-old daughter.
The mother of nine, left food in the the apartment and the children appeared to be healthy, said Jill Manuel, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
The children are currently being cared for by Haywood's mother while DCFS investigates whether the grandmother can care for all the children. Prosecutors said that Haywood had made only $420 of the $450 needed to pay her rent.

i was babysitting long before 14. (Never 9 at a time though) If she really was trying to pay the rent and not out partying and working on number 11, then I think she needs help and not jail. I wonder why she wasn't on welfare.

A hobby! Sounds more like a career! :O)Career? If so, she needs to find another line of work - she ended up 30 bucks short.

A very devoted & hard working mother. You go girl!!!
Another case of - "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one".

I've prepared this simple graph, which, when extrapolated, clearly shows that in 100,000 years, this woman will have 125,000 children and be paying $5.6 million per month in rent: UN warns of population surge
And now you know... the rest of the story.

She needs to increase her rates.

The article doesn't say a lot of things, but it fits a pattern of behavior.

The mother of nine, left food in the the apartment and the children appeared to be healthy, said Jill Manuel, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. So what's the problem? No harm, no foul. Many 14-year-olds are capable of handling such a situation, as long as there is a neighbor available for emergencies.
Oh, I get it. The mother was probably having sex with men. If it had been homosexual sex she'd have been OK.
Honestly, how the government decides what are our rights and when they need to poke their noses in is way beyond me.
Shalom.

After nine kids at age 30, she's probably lucky she made that much.

Thirty-year-old Tonia S. Haywood was arrested for felony abandonment Wonder if she's related to Haywood Jablomee?

I'd just like to know where she found a landlord willing to rent to 9 kids!!! God Lord ain't that a record these days?
To: general_re
Hmmm. Go out and have sex to pay the rent, have another kid as a result, rent goes up. Go out and have more sex to pay higher rent, have another kid as a result, rent goes up again. She learned well. Sounds like the government.

now let's see in California 9 children x $600 = $5400 per month ($65,000/anum), then again the cost of living is higher in the east I guess -
To: general_re
$420 is an odd figure. I can't guess how much she gets per gig, but she seems to be a hard-working girl. Offhand, I'd guess she did 210 gigs, but it might very well be 1,680.
From there to figuring how many gigs she'd have to do to make bail gets a little crazy, but it might make a good problem for the local kids to do for math homework.
