I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's these "purists" that almost got Bustamante elected- and more than a few openly admitted to it... Single issue voters are so marginalized, it's not even worth convincing them otherwise

I'm a proud conservative, though I'm pragmatic, and I vote for the best candidate outt here... To me Bush is eons better than Dean, so the choice is obvious. Heck, he's been a great President, albeit he's made some mistakes.
The votes Bush picls up from moderates will dwarf the votes he loses to these single-issue folks.
That's about the same thing the White House staffers were telling GHW Bush after he banned the importation of so-called 'assault weapons' - 'Gun owners? Where else can they go? Bush will likely win in a landslide, so to heck with them...'
Guess what? Bush didn't win in a landslide.
Don't get me wrong: I like 'Dubyah.' But he made a big mistake on this one, and I hope he deals with it, rather than just saying "to heck with them" like his daddy did...
