But, Clinton WILL be a force to contend with in 2008. The natural electorate pendulum will want to swing back to a Democrat.
I'd like to see Condi Rice moved into the VP slot, and Dick Cheney take a ceremonial title. Same responsibilities and competencies, but we need a superstar coming out of that VP slot to beat Hillary in 2008. I don't think Jeb, Bill Owens, Frist or anyone ... but perhaps Arnold (if the Constitution is amended) ... can beat the Beast, no matter how talented and attractive they are. Jeb is the best qualified ... but Joe Blow American may reflexively not be comfortable with ANOTHER Bush in the Oval Office. Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush ... it's like the House of Tudors.
Clinton will completely reinvent herself, with the dutiful compliance of her media lackeys, the next four years. Condi Rice is the perfect foil, but only out of the VP slot. It's apparent, she's W's most trusted security/foreign policy advisor today. She travels everywhere he travels.
I think we'll have a female Prez in 2008. I hope it's Condi.
If she runs in 2008, she will get trounced by anybody the Republican juggernaut puts up.
Success breeds furor among enemies, and it sows indifference among tepid supporters. If we are peaceful and secure, as I pray we will be, our neighbors and friends will go back into their selfish torpor and consider electing a candidate blowing the same bullcrap up bums that Bill Clinton did after the Gipper, the Pubbies and our tough ass military heroes won the Cold War. It's natural.
Hillary is not Michael Dukakis. We're going to need a better candidate in 2008 than George H.W. Bush was in 1988 to retain the White House.
It's a long time away, but the great thing? There are actually talented professionals in the GOP National and State organizations that are planning that far ahead.
That's the thing that really jazzes me these days. The guys and gals in the RNC, Senate and House National Committees and State orgs that are professional, systematic and relentless. Such a difference to 98 and 2000 under Nicholson, McConnell and that "let them eat cake" expense account padding crew. The GOP young guns in the House and Senate - and serving in State offices - are quantum leaps ahead of the roster the Democrats have either in the biggies, or down on their farm team.
Things are as upbeat as they can be.
Me, too!
I came back on the thread to the immense pleasure of reading so many of your brilliant posts! I agree with everything you've said here but most especially with your comments about Condi. I've thought for a while that she is absolutely brilliant and will be an incredible Ace in the hole as far as preparing for Hillary's run. I think we will have a female President soon, it would make so much sense for her to be a Republican :-)
My big concern, though, is that I've heard she is not terribly socially conservative and I'm very afraid of her being attacked from the right much the same as Schwarzenegger was.
By 2008, nobody will remember her as Bill Clinton's wife. She'll be carefully crafted, marketed and presented as a stateswoman, leader and visionary. Mark my words.
Bush will have a historically successful and important Presidency, therefore the mushy elecotrate will want to vote in a Democrat. That's the way it works.
From memory:
Arnold 48.5 percent
Bustamante 31.5 percent
Right Wing Attack Dog Hero McClintock: 13.4 percent
Condi should be so wounded! ;^)
Now that is one awesome hubby!
Tell him thousands of freeper females are jealous of you ;-)
True, true... less to worry about than I thought LOL
I just hope my Arnold battle scars will have healed by the time I start incurring new ones for Condi ;-)
Me, too!
And he's such a young whipper snapper!
I graduated High School in '76, and I wasn't a child prodigy!
Don't confuse being a goofball with being young. ;^)
By 2008 Hitlery will be so ragged and scary that only the darkest feminazis will trumpet her. Mark my words, if she doesn't give it a go in 2004, she's done as a candidate that can actually win the Presidency.
I can still jump through the roof.
