The one thing he did say, one of the few things, that I ever supported, was his constant harranguing that America needed to promote greater foreign language fluency across the board by many of its citizens. How we would benefit in so many ways, many ways to our own credit/national safety, if somehow his ideas (although coercive perhaps at times) could have taken ahold.

Why don't you try showing some class and avoiding this thread if you don't have any tact or respect?

There was a time when Democrats might have disagreed with Republicans on policy, but still loved their country and had some integrity. Sadly, as evidenced by the Clintons, Dean, Kucinich, et al., that no longer is that case. I believe Sen. Simon was one of those 'old-fashioned' Dems.

Look, you want to spot drivel about a dead man go to DU. That is their game. Our duty is to keep our honor. Alive we disagree, dead we ask that they rest in peace. Catch on or get out.

I am from Illinois, and don't have much good to say about hardly any Democrats. I didn't agree with most of his polices, but I felt Simon was an over all honest fellow. I used to compare Simon to other Democrats that If I were to have met Paul Simon in an airport, and he had lost his wallet and needed $50 to get home, I would have lent him the money with 98% confidence that I would get the $50 repaid back in the mail, in comparison to 98% surety that you would NEVER get your money back from Klinton. Rest in Peace, Sen. Simon.

Agreed, but the flip side of that coin is that immigrants ought to have at least a minimal fluency in English to participate in many of the rights and privileges that come with being an American (voting, driving, etc.) If anything, we should be more demanding on that point.

If/when Our Ronald sadly passes away, I can never, ever expect to hear a single kind thing about him on that trash forum, "DU".
Good, very good indeed, that we at FR are miles ahead of that crowd in the morality and decency departments.

Agreed. RIP Senator Simon.
I thought this SNL scene using a real politician was one of the more funny of that type. From Dec 19th, 1987, host singer Paul Simon and cameo guest, Sentor Paul Simon;

Since the presidential campaign of 92, it is clear that today's democrats do NOT love their country no matter how much they protest the suggestion. They hate middle america most of all.
