Families in these situations find it hard to accept their family member is dead until a body is recovered. They'll always hold onto that narrow sliver of hope until confronted by reality. Elizabeth Smart was one of the rare few that comes home alive.

Oh dear. I had my doubts this young woman was still alive and the evidence in the car just seems to be confirming those doubts. I just think a 22 yr old girl with what seems to be the strength, health, and determination this girl had would have found a way to free herself and find help by now if she was bound somewhere, dumped, but still alive, etc.
I just hope if she is gone, they find her remains soon so her parents can bury their daughter appropriately. What a shame.

build a penal colony on the Aleutians"Build a penal colony"
I don't want to spend a dime on them. The trouble with the Aleutians is that dropping someone off there with the clothes on his back would be a death sentence (I favor killing them myself, but I am assuming the need for a penal colony has arisen because my fellow citizens disagree).
We need a tropical location which can be secured from egress, but I would not invest anything or place any physical objects there.
Drop 'em off naked (or with a prison jumpsuit, I don't care), and let them work it out with each other.
Provision of any sort is morally repugnant to me.

Did you notice that the Janklow case was over, too, after only a day-and-a-half?
He tried the "I hadn't eaten, so I was hypoglycemic", and the jury said "so? You're over 18, and you knew you were diabetic - it's your responsibility."
If this had been an LA trial, it would have taken three weeks, and his "anti-twinkie" defense would have probably worked.

It's unlikely she's alive --- but it's possible he's left her tied up somewhere to keep raping while she bleeds to death ---- they should force it out of him where she is --- dead or alive --- using any kind of force needed to get him to tell. The bastard may have left her alive and is getting his jollies knowing she'd dying slowly while he's comfortable in prison.
And the liberals would like another chance to rehabilitate him I'm sure.

This is winter in northern Minnesota. The weather has been relatively mild, but it isn't the sort of place where someone who is dumped in a ditch is likely to be found still alive, a couple of days later.

Get me a blow torch, pliers, rubbing alcohol, and some rock salt and I'll have the truth out of the SOB in 10 minutes.

All kidding aside. I can just about look out my backyard window and see the parking lot where she was abducted. If she is outside, she's been dead for days.
