Just got off the phone with her case manager. They are very happy about getting rid of her. I have in my possession an "Advance Directive for Health Care" which she -- Marilyn --- signed back in New Jersey in 1995, designating me as her health care rep.

The reason I haven't presented this to the hospital folk yet is because she requested no 'life-supporting' measures, including artifically provided fluids and nutrition. It wasn't until I heard about and got involved with Terri Schiavo's plight did I realize what that meant. I will not allow her to be starved to death!!!

You know, these prayers are working! I didn't ask her friend, Claudia, to come here to help us --- but she is coming and she seems to know what to do. I can't wait till she arrives! The case manager said it would probably take a couple of days to get everything in order to get her out of that horrid hospital.

I'm heading to the hospital now ... will post an update when I get home tonight.

"I have in my possession an "Advance Directive for Health Care"...."

If you talk to an attorney, find out if that gives you the same rights and responsibilities as a Medical Power of Attorney.

While we're on the subject of "life support", the conditions imposed by the legal system in Florida concerning Terri Shiavo were ridiculous.
When my sis was dying the hospital staff asked me if I would consent to life support.
I asked what that consisted of, and I was told it meant artificial respirators and mechanisms to keep her heart functioning. There was never any mention of withholding food or water.
By Terri's "spouse's" definition it meant that if the building fell on her, no one was supposed to try to dig her out!

I have sent up a prayer for Marilyn, that she may be granted healing, strength, and peace.

I also pray the Lord will continue to strengthen you, and guide you according to His will. You & Claudia have my very best wishes in getting done what needs taken care of.

You are a wonderful sister. Stay strong!!!
