This thread's still alive? I REPEAT... What Alan Keyes did is accurate. I hate to be redundant but I WAS THERE with Terri front line supporters discussing Alan Keyes' itinery. He was in Israel in October of 2003 which kept him from physically visiting Pinellas County but it didn't keep his staff from going above and beyond.
Other Washington delegates helped us too.
Terri was Baynews9.com's Newsmaker of the Year. She got 51% of the on line votes. floriduh voter

I was there, too! (I loved meeting you guys!)
Obviously, some of Terri's supporters feel that their efforts on her behalf were diminished when the big guys showed up, then left to do a little bragging. They clearly lacked diplomacy when they forgot to recognize the folks who were working in the trenches.
To those of you who feel put out:
1. Human nature is such that there has always been braggarts and there always will be. If you need to be in the spotlight in your activism, please choose a tiny little cause that doesn't attract national media attention.
2. If the resentment is about the mention of Terri in various non-profit groups fundraising efforts, it may be from a lack of knowledge concerning the nonprofit world. Ask any employee of a fundraising department of a local charitable organization, and they will tell you just how much pressure the group is under just to meet its budget quotas.
3. Terri received free publicity as a result of these solicitations. We need to recognize that the fund raising letters went to hundreds of thousands known supporters of the Right-to-life cause. Although this solicitation may not have gone directly into Terri's fund, Terri received free national exposure worth probably close to $100,000. Alan Keyes is not asking the Terri Foundation to reimburse him for his mailing expenses.
4. These groups are in the wings, waiting, ready and available if there is something they can do to help. They have used their lobbyists, their political network and their smallest connections to help the Schindler Family. They will do so, again, if need be. We really should be expressing gratitude towards all who have made any effort on Terri's behalf.
5. On an aside, it doesn't really need to be said, but if the Schindlers caught wind of this squabbling over bragging rights, they would possibly be quite disturbed. Talk about a hope squasher. In summary, we all have the same goals and we all need each other. Some may have better skills at publicity; Others may have better skills at communication; Others may excel at compassion. Terri's cause needs the services of all who care and all whom G*d sends to help Terri and the Schindler family get through their ordeal. < /rant
