I just read your take on John Mitchell, and I don't think he's hate-filled at all. He's simply realistic. There is not going to be a sudden hiring of black head coaches. Why should there be a sudden hiring of black head coaches? You think color ought to determine who's hired and who's not? Preferential treatment, is that your thang?
John Mitchell is a poster boy for racism, provided this one article accurately depicts him.
Mike Shula did not merit the Alabama head coaching position. Sly Croom did.
Oh really? Mike Shula got the job, guess you think that was a racist call? You are one piece of work, but least you're consistent.

I think the author of this article is using Mitchell's statements speciously to support his own prejudicial agenda. Just looking at Mitchell's actual quotations, he seems to be a lot more fair-minded than Chuck Finder (the author of this bilge).

I stand by my statement that Croom was more qualified for the Bama job. I have no idea why Mal Moore and PBJr chose Shula.
I looked up the Mitchell quote in the original ESPN story. He admits to being prejudiced against Mississippi because of the past. I believe that he knows very well about how the best should get the opportunity to play/coach over the lesser qualified. He played at a Junior College in Arizona because Alabama would not recruit black players. When Bear Bryant stuck his neck out and recruited Mitchell to play for him, he did so knowing that Mitchell was a superior player for his team. He was right. Mitchell could have said no to Bear Bryant and not played for Alabama. But he didn't. And he lived up to Bear Bryant's expectations very well. Mitchell apparently refused to be baited by this reporter, and the reporter had to take a quote from another writer's interview.
