when I am asked when I left liberalism, I answer that I never left it. It left me -

Excellent line. I'm sure that it sums up the way that many former liberals feel.

Our language has become Orwellian. Communists are described as "social activists"; and when communists are investigated by a democratic government, the government is the villain and the communists are victims.

Communists in Hollywood are still at it. They called our attempt to protect freedoms in America "Black listing".

Interesting. Makes me think of the Barbra Streisand film "The Way We Were", in which Babs plays an idealist student and Communist party member. I remember watching that film and wondering, hey this film is making it out to be okay.

We in Seattle see this kind of obituary all the time. Whenever I see a writeup of a 80+ year old "civil rights activist's" passing, I think "there goes another old Seattle Communist". And sure enough, somewhere there'll be an oblique reference to how they were persecuted as part of "anti-Communist hysteria".

Shortly after the death of John F. Kennedy, however, liberalism ceased being anti-communist. Instead it became anti-anti-communist.

-------------------------------

You are either young or naive. Liberalism was anti-anti-communist long before Kennedy's death.

Mother of Carl Bernstein of Woodward and Bernstein fame, she and her hubby were also big supporters of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. Good riddance.

The thread under this one starts off saying... The new Medicare prescription-drug benefit could cost as much as $2 trillion in its second decade, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said yesterday, especially if Congress fills in the coverage gaps in the current benefit.

Liberalism is not dead, its just spreading

Though communism is largely dead, this has not changed.

Communism is NOT largely dead, it has just moved into different names.... leftists, enviromentalists, greens, and any number of NATIONAL organizations linked to their website.

A frightening list to be sure!

But difinately alive and well!

(Where is the spell check on this site?)

There are two kinds of fascists: the Fascists and the Anti-Fascists.

"Though communism is largely dead, this has not changed. That is why our press regards Sylvia Bernstein merely as a social activist."

"communism" is alive and well, as as been pointed out here.

I would merely point out that the press is complicit in not only their survival, but in feeding, and nurturing them.
