I was so hoping someone would diss Jimmy Carter's novel, and Cheaney was very obliging. And what is it with the Left, they go weak in the knees over liberals who are allegedly smart and intellectual.

And the last two lines are worth repeating.

Leadership means cutting through the murkiness with one clear goal. Carter can't even do that with one clear literary theme.

His poetry is enough to make anyone go weak in the knees.

He sold us out for a piece of tainted bronze. That's as kind as I'll be to him.

What Carter lacks in style and substance, he makes up for in self-importance.

If Rosalyn didn't have such a big ego, she wouldn't have pestered Jimmy to build such a haphazard legacy.

We're watching the movie "Scarface" right now. You know, the movie with Al Pacino about the nice Cuban hard core prisoners that were all brought to and released in the US during Jimmy's term......

But that is the Carter style: exalted ambivalence...

Jimmy wasn't sure he wanted to write a novel or a history text; therefore, he failed at both. Much like his attention to detail in his presidency, he never saw the big picture (and still doesn't). A disappointing book is one thing, but being remembered as the sorriest president of the 20th century is another.

(Carter himself admitted in an interview that he couldn't figure out who won Ethan's heart in the end — a disingenuous comment that actually explains a lot about his gifts as a novelist.)

Couldn't figure out? Disingenuous? That sounds a lot like his 'presidency'.
