Great commentary. I would have to agree with you completely.
We need your level headed comments more often on FR.

The comments by our administration were still out of line and 90 degree out of step from the "we stand for freedom" stance of the past.
It was pathetic and sent the wrong signal to people who look at our nation to stand up to bullies and thugs like the Red Chinese.

I beleive that the goal is to encourage more freedom in China while avoiding any polarizing conflicts between China and Taiwan.

The goal is to keep the cheap product pipeline moving that fuels the economy. Its very hypocritical to talk of freedom for people when we are selective about it.
Come to think of it...if Hitler had provided cheap products for the world, they would have looked the other way in 1939 as he invaded Poland.

Hype?
Go live under a dictaorship and come back and tell me. I have...and the freedom "thing" was not ans is not hype to me.
There are alot of people making alot of money from the China connection. And the Chinese dictatorship is using that money to arm itself. Give a dictator with a big military the feeling he is not going to be opposed, and he starts moving troops across borders.
