There were 3 million people running around the I95 corridor when ol'Ben was around...and I dont recall anyone zipping jetliners into 110 story skyscrapers either.
I can make all kinds of eloquent quotes that disregard today's reality.

Should we get rid of airport metal detectors because we're giving up some liberty for temporary security?

Here's a success story. No terrorists checked out "bad" library books, because the FBI was keeping an eye on public libraries...or maybe they weren't..or maybe they were and said they weren't, but it doesn't matter.
What is important is that, because of the surveillance, or a lack of surveillance, or surveillance that really is, but which they say isn't surveillance...we can once again breath the sweet, weet air of liberty.

What an old and tired saying used to describe any debate regarding government. How about, "Speak softly and carry a big stick" or "I did not have sex with that woman" they carry about the same weight as a statement based on feel good smoke. I think Hello Kitty has some good quotes too, lets check, ah yes here is one "Hi, my name is Hello Kitty, and this is Bear! Welcome to the Tea Party!" Yes, I must say it fits right along with your quote in this arguement.
