The British Mandate (which was created after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire during World War I) was supposed to be divided into Arab (Palestinian) and Jewish sections. It was. One part became Jordan and (a smaller) part became Israel. Lebanon with in the French Mandate, I think, and was never designated as an ethnic homeland for anybody. It was supposed to be a mixed community (of Christians, Moslems, and others), and operated that way for decades until Syria backed the Moslems in a civil war that basically destroyed the Christian communities there.

The British mandate was just one more effort to try to resolve a problem that goes back to Joshua and his conquest of this land for Israel and God.
The best solution is to offer individual Palestinians to setup their own state elsewhere in the world - and well fund them to do so. Instead of giving them 10,000 for each of their children who will kill themselves by killing Israelis lets give them 10,000 and more for resettlign in a new place far away from Israel - but a wonderful place a place where they will have all the natural resources and climate they need to live and prosper as a separate people. Let the UN do something like this by encouraging a country somewhere in the world to dedicate land for this purpose and giving that country all kinds of great incentives to do so.
