Hunt bear with a 12 gauge? As far as I am concerned a .45-.70 would be the minimum I would want to start with, even for a black bear.

Back east there are so-called "shotgun states" where hunting with rifles (except rimfires) is forbidden, usually due to population density. A good slug gun with a sabot slug should suffice for black bear if placed properly.

Well, I think the bagged bear total was around 63 which is not even a drop in the bucket considering 3,000+ black bear in NJ as of several months back(old, old data->even earlier than that by some experts).
This hunt needs to annual for a few years to come. AND this hunt needs to be in prime bear season, NOT HIBERNATION SEASON. DOLTS!
