I caught it from Laz.
Worst work I've ever witnessed was union work.

Smell of gas being reported along Yonge St in the 770 block. Source - CFRB AM1010- no confirmation.
For some reason, Transport Canada has declared a no-fly zone over the area to a height of 2000 feet.
Bank of Nova Scotia at corner of Bay St. fully evacuated as per reports from the scene.

Correction - No-Fly Zone a two mile radius of site up to 3000 meters.
Early speculation for no-fly zone is to keep helicopters away so they can hear anyone trapped easier.

I'm sure there was union labor there, just like in all the other buildings that are torn down with no incidents whatsoever. What the hell is the matter with you? It's Al Qaeda Union Leaders, is what it is.

installing a no fly zone is standard procedure for these things...the media is so busy flying close to the deck to get carnage video, that rescuers on the ground can't hear radios, let alone any victims.

1 dead, one child has the lower part of his/her body crushed. Yonge St. & Bloor is complete pandemonium. Firefighters are frantically trying to rescue one last trapped worker, pray the remaining part of the cinema holds up until they can get the person out.

Isn't there a "historical buildings preservation" group that could be played off against the handicapped? You'll usually find well-meaning lefties among both groups.
To: Question_Assumptions
There is a Toronto Historical Board but I don't recall them being overly active in defending the theaters. They're run by "big theater conglomerates" doncha know.
Actually, there was a lot of opposition across the political spectrum. Leftists are often big theater goers. But trumping the "poor disadvantaged hadicapped" with their eye watering speeches by wheelchair bound spokespeople effectively shuts many up. Don't want to seem uncompassionate after all.
When it happened I knew someone who was working to keep the theatres as they were. My first question was "Are they running movies there that aren't available at fully accessible facilities?" The answer was "No. They agreed to that change years ago in response to the activists." Of course, the activists didn't shut up and brought the issue up again when they thought they had a sympathetic ear. Frustrating, but par for the course.

The theatre that collapsed is 1/2 block from Best Copy.
Are there sinister forces at work?
Perhaps analogously to the Bermuda Triangle there is the Toronto Triangle.
