I'm sorry, but if you start a club to hang out with "white" people, you are either a racist or a segregationalist or both. "White" people aren't one identifiable common culture/history group -- all they share is a skin color. I can't fathom why people would want to establish friends based on skin color.

Yes, some of you will say- it's bad when black, latinos etc. do it to. True, but to a much lesser extent. Almost all black Americans share a common culture and history as the decendents of slaves who were segregated for generations-- creating distinctively american black cultural motifs in art, fashion, literature and music. Latinos generally share a common language and religion (99% Catholic) and are mostly first or second generation immigrants. Whites don't.

I'm a Sephardic Jew born in Mexico with most of my genetic ancestors originating in the Middle East (albeit with a smittering of Gentile British/French/German blood). Skin wise, I'm white with a mildly olive complexion. I have zero desire to hang out with other "white" people simply because we share a genetic skin allelle. I will however self-select based on real culture-- hanging out more frequently in groups of Jews, with whom I share a common faith and culture. That's based on faith and culture- not skin tone.

I noticed no one answered you so I will offer my opinion.
I'd be hesitant to tell my black American friends that they aren't original Americans. Their ancestors did just as much to build this country as the founding fathers did. I'd say it's LAZY to have other people do your own work, and not do it yourself (slavery). Now I love the founding fathers. esp Thomas Jefferson. Boy you can have a thread in FR about afrocentrists worshipping the color of their skin BUT I see the same thing here. My ancestors are primarily from Europe, but does this mean I am somehow automatically connected to all white people in America? My mother came from an English colony. My whole childhood was European culture and history. My mom who is not all white, has more connection to Europe than white Americans. Culture and ethnicity are very different from mere skin color. Some things are more than skin deep.

Well said. The problem is that there is such a thing as a "caucasion" race but there isn't any real thing that is a "white" race.

Caucasions can be nearly any color with many peoples being extremely dark in color but dark caucasions are often declared not white. Mongoloids are not white even when they have skin paler than most caucasions.

"White" people is largely a racist cultural concept based on the idea that there is something unique about people based strictly on bloodlines. In this country that idea has resulted in government formulas defining who is and isn't white for the purposes of segregation. The ridiculous extreme being that having "one drop" of negroid "blood" made someone of european extraction non-white.

"White" for is most synonymous with pure european but even there some europeans have at times been declared not white.
