What a great source document... thanks for posting it. I had never heard of this, that I recall (big weasel there!), and my undergrad degree is in history. Go figure.

Can someone enlightened me as to: (1) why the British/Canadian forces attacked the Caroline (presuming it was them, they must have had some reason to do that), and (2) what the outcome of the case was?

Further resources for reading wouldn't hurt, either!

Embarrassed here to know something that the kids of home-schoolers AND the LA Unified School District know.

I never heard of the Caroline, but if this happened in 1837 then it may have had something to do with the rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada. IIRC there was also an ongoing problem at the time with Fenians coming in from the USA to attack British targets.
