"I don't think so, though. I think it will take longer for them to have the trial."

How long do you think this trial will last? Could it last more than a month or two?

"From what I read, apparently they were able to obtain Laci's DNA from whatever kind of test was done. I'm just guessing here, but wouldn't you think this late in the pregnancy special tests wouldn't be required unless there were unusual circumstances?"

I think they would do a pap smear if it was time, I don't see it as terribly unusual. With the way Scott behaved, she certainly could have had an STD but a pap smear (technically) is done to look for cancer of the cervix. A precancer can be caused by HPV (which is sexually transmitted) but it is slow and silent (i.e., she probably wouldn't be running to the doctor with uncomfortable symptoms of cervical cancer). I believe that for most STDs they culture vaginal secretions.

First, I don't think they'll be starting the trial within the next 6 months. Then, when they have the trial, yes, I think it could easily take, say, two months.

But remember (were you here then, I can't remember), I am the one who said, "Oh, that judge will never continue that prelim beyond the Sept. date!" The judge had already continued it twice at that time, I think. Needless to say, I was quite wrong!

I do bbelieve that doing a pap smear in late pregnancy is NOT usual. But as yet, I'm just not sure what the "reason" for doing it was.

I had a Pap smear while pregnant too. Once that year rolls around, pregnant or not, doctors will take advantage of the frequent appointments and get it done. They like each patient to have one a year.

I hate getting Pap smears done. I am really over due right now. I'm getting one done this month!! My doctor calls it the five minute special!! Actually, takes a little longer than that.

Oh, Yaelle, at any stage of pregnancy did you have a strep B test?

That's what I thought!

There was one thing, though--at least at the times I was pregnant. (Of course, they change everything around all the time!) Seems to me that the doctor didn't want to actually do a pelvic in the last month or so of pregnancy, b/c they feared infection or something?

So, I mean, would they have wanted to do a pap smear, which requires a speculum, that close to the end of pregnancy?

From Google:

"A highly effective solution is now available to physicians and parents wishing to minimize and prevent the risk of Group B Streptococcus (GBS)
in newborns: the IDI-Strep B™ test.

"Offering a heretofore unknown level of sensitivity
and specificity, the IDI-Strep B™ test identifies Group B
Streptococcus in pregnant women at the
time of delivery in less than one hour. The test can also be used at any other stage of pregnancy."

So, maybe this was the test Laci's dr. preformed which also captured her DNA.

That's interesting grizz. I suppose that could very well have been what Laci was having done.

Well, they are checking the cervix anyway at that time, so if the doctor just wanted to check off her chart as having had a pap done by the end of that year, they might have just done it. I imagine that if Laci had shown any signs of the cervix opening they would not have risked anything, but it takes just 1 second with a swab and really shouldn't risk starting labor or infection. Laci was surely allowed to have sex at that time, and that (especially with Scott!) would have risked a lot more.

I think I did have that strep B test, even though mine was to be a planned C-section.

Makes sense to me!

Even back when I was pregnant, they would never tell a couple not to have sex, lol.

That strep test, though, that's a newer thing.

In addition to the usual, I had the Rh thing to consider. Rhogam and all that. I sure am glad Rhogam had been invented by the time I grew up, lol.

LACI CAUGHT SCOTT CHEATING

His girlfriend walked in and found him in bed with Laci! Scott bought Viagra pills on-line with 11 refills!

by Don Gentile, David Wright and Charlie Montgomery

synopsis

Scott Peterson was caught cheating by his wife Laci in a shocking and bizarre bedroom scene, The NE has learned exclusively. That stunning revelation was uncovered by police and could play a key role in Scott's murder trial.

But in a twist worthy of Hollywood, it was not Laci who walked in on Scott with his lover- it was Scott's lover who walked in on the married couple in bed.

Although Scott has admitted to an affair with Amber Frey, the lover at the center of this controversy is someone else- Janet Ilse, now 25, who may also be called as a witness by prosecutors!

The NE has obtained this never before revealed information from deep inside the investigation into Scott. LE have amassed a wealth of information showing that Scott cheated on Laci from the moment they wed- launching into sex-crazed rampages fueled by Viagra and piling lie upon lie to seduce a string of unsuspecting women.

The NE has learned from sources close to the investigation all the details of Scott's secret sex life- and crucial evidence in the murder case against him. In the months before his pregnant wife disappeared, Scott purchased Viagra and got a prescription for 11 refills.

"Everyone knows about Scott's girlfriend Amber Frey, but police interviewed many other women he cheated with and lied to- women who are willing to testify against him, " revealed a source. And the most shocking testimony may come from Janet Ilse, the lover who walked in on Scott and Laci in bed!

Janet was a sophomore at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo at the time. She met Scott, a senior at the school, in early 1998, only a few months after he married Laci, who also attended Cal Poly.

Scott had a strange living arrangement. He had three other male students as roommates in a home off-campus. Laci didn't live their full time and incredibly, even his roommates weren't immediately aware Scott had a wife.

"Janet dated Scott for five months. Their relationship was intimate. He never mentioned he was married," divulged a source. Scheming Scott told Janet he wanted to move in with her. They talked about marriage and meeting her parents. But in a startling statement that's piqued the interest of investigators, Scott divulged to Janet he didn't want kids because "they would get in the way of his lifestyle," the insider said.

One morning both Laci and Janet got an extremely rude awakening. Janet dropped in on Scott- a surprise visit that should have been a warning to Laci about her husband's infidelity.

"One of Scott's roommates let Janet in, and she went into Scott's room unannounced. She found him in bed with Laci and exploded, yelling at both of them, screaming that Scott was cheating on her," revealed the insider. "Scott's roommate got her out of there and drove her home. He explained Laci was Scott's wife and he'd been cheating on her with Janet." Janet's relationship with Scott ended then and there.

Incredibly, a week later, Scott showed up at Janet's home, apologizing but still not admitting Laci was his wife, according to the insider. Janet turned over pictures to police to support her story, one of Scott at her college home, a photo of Scott's dog McKenzie(a gift from Laci), and one of her holding 12 dozen roses Scott gave her.

Janet did not return NE phone calls.

After Scott's bizarre relationship with Janet ended, Scott quickly replaced her with another curvy coed- Katy Hansen, now 28, according to the insider. Contacted by the NE, Katy did not wish to be interviewed, but the NE learned that she told police she met Scott when they were in the same class during the last semester before graduation at Cal Poly in 1998.

Peterson filled Katy with wild stories of future hopes, explaining he wanted to be mayor of Fillmore, Calif. Katy was cautious. She asked Scott, who never wore a wedding ring, if he'd ever been married or engaged. He said no.

The next day, however, in a scene reminiscent of one he later played out with Amber Frey, Scott met with Katy to "confess he'd been married but was divorced or separated, as she recalled," said the insider.

Katy told police she was never intimate with Scott- but they'd stayed overnight at each other's homes and the relationship was getting serious. Then came graduation day. "Katy and Scott sat together and suddenly a woman walked up, gave Scott a passionate kiss and put a Hawaiian lei around his neck. Scott introduced the woman to Katy. It was Laci.

"Laci then walked away leaving Katy confused as she sat through graduation ceremonies. Scott never said a word to her and she didn't ask any questions. But it was clear to her this was his wife, and she immediately stopped seeing Scott.

A week later Katy got a dozen pink roses from her never say die suitor. The card took a pleading tone. It read "no job, no home," revealed the insider. Katy never again contacted the philanderer.

During the investigation into Laci's murder, LE also interviewed Lauren Putnat, 28, who dated Scott for a year and a half. Their romance blossomed in 1994 and 1995 in Morro Bay, where Scott's parents lived at the time. Lauren was romantically involved with Scott just before he met Laci- and provided police with important insight into their prime suspect.

Lauren told the NE she met Scott when she was a waitress and he was a waiter at Abba's Pacific Cafe. When Scott pushed for a long-lasting relationship, she backed off, and when she broke up with him, he showed signs of extreme jealousy.

"Scott didn't want to take no for an answer, said Lauren. Until then he had held his emotions inside, but Scott exploded in a crying jag- begging Lauren not to break off the relationship.

Lauren suspects Scott dated Laci to make her jealous, since he brought Laci into the Pacific Cafe four times after Lauren ended their relationship. "The first time, Laci's mom Sharon was with them," she recalled. "Laci had brought a single rose for Scott and it was the first time Sharon had met Scott," said Lauren.

"It was just two weeks after I broke up with Scott. It's clear he was seeing Laci before we ended our relationship." Astonishingly, Scott showed up a few more times at Lauren's home trying to get her into bed, but she refused.

AS LE built a character study of Scott, they learned that his cheating ways began during high school. A girl called Stefanie, who requested the NE not use her last name, dated Scott for four months when he was a senior at Univ. San Diego High School and she was a sophomore. Scott gave Stefanie a ring for Valentine's Day. But unknown to her, he began dating another girl. When she found out, she confronted Scott. He denied having any other relationship. Stefanie dumped Scott and learned he began dating the other girl exclusively. "His cheating is a bad character trait," Stefanie told the NE. "And his later life shows the same pattern."

That's what detectives learned as Amber Frey surfaced in the days after Laci's disappearance, revealing how Scott told her his wife had died the previous year. Amber's friend Shawn Sibley, who works for a company that does agriculture research, met the fertilizer salesman at a conference in Oct 2002.

As usual, Scott said he was single. He told Shawn he was looking to get involved in a serious relationship. "What should he write on his name tag that would attract a woman," he asked? Shawn suggested, "I'm rich." Scott suggested, H.B. for "Horny Bastard." At dinner in Anaheim, Scott made obvious passes at Shawn, even though he knew she was engaged. He asked Shawn what her favorite sex positions were and other suggestive questions," said the insider. "He lied to her about where he lived, telling Shawn he had homes in Sacramento and San Diego.

Shawn wanted nothing to do with him, but she made a fateful mistake by giving him Amber's phone number and the two would soon hook up.

As police stepped up their investigation of Scott, they learned from Laci's married friend Renee Tomlinson that he once made a serious pass at her- by cupping his hand over her butt at a party. She never mentioned it to Laci, says the insider.

During searches of Scott's home and business, LE found further proof of Scott's secret sex life. 5 computers he and Laci owned were seized and examined. Four that Scott used exclusively, showed he made frequent visits to porno Web sites.

A pill bottle recovered at Scott's home contained Viagra, which he ordered on the Internet from Online Pharmacy in January 2002. It was a prescription for five 100-milligram pills. The script could be filled 11 times.

Not even Laci's disappearance could take Scott's mind off sex, police discovered.

On Jan.18, 2003, less than a month after Laci disappeared, Scott took time out from the Laci saga to address his sexual desires.

"An official at Dish Network reported to police that Scott called up that day to order several triple X-rated channels added to his service," the insider said. Then on Feb.18, Scott canceled his entire TV service, with good reason. Armed with a search warrant, police entered his home that day to look for further evidence in the case. Said the insider,"It was clear he didn't want police to see his choice of home entertainment."

Me too. Glad about Rhogam, that is. I needed it 5 times (3 kids, 2 miscarriages). Imagine the child needing to have a full blood transfusion. Thank G-d for creative medical discovery.

Yes; I once had a secretary whose grandchild had had to have a full blood transfusion as an infant, in the early 80's. I forget what the problem was. But anyway, she said she'd agonized and worried about it for, like, the child's first 3-4 years, until the doctor finally told her and the child's mother, "okay, I think you folks can stop worrying now about the possibility that he got AIDs contaminated blood."

Thanks for your post.
Laci had to have been aware of Scott's behavior - I don't see how she could not have known there were definite problems.

I agree having a pap smear done in late pregnancy would be unusual.
If that was the test that was done - it should be interesting to find out why it was done at that time.
